Why are we so sensitive to motions? I never was really aware of a busy floor or cars on the other side of the road....? Anyone heard why this is?

the nerves involved in autonomic functions are also responsible for the sense of balance, motion, and gravity. I hope that I have understood your question correctly. If not, clear my cobwebs and I can try to help you understand your particular problem.

Wow, Michael, that would explain a lot. I often feel as if I'm spinning from the inside out (if that makes sense). It's the same sensation I used to get when I was a little girl and would spin around and around on purpose and then lie down in the grass. The difference is that the world isn't moving or spinning, it just feels like I am. I have had all kinds of ENT tests and passed them all. This would also explain why I often feel like I'm falling or being pushed/pulled and am constantly fighting gravity. I get quick dizzy spells with any and all position changes (sit to stand, stand to sit, etc.) This would also explain why I get dizzy when I am walking too fast (motion) and why I have so much trouble focusing in Walmart or other large stores.
I would be interested in any other more specific info you could share on this as this has been a big battle for me. I was not aware that the autonomic function nerves were also responsible for balance and gravity. Would love to share this with my Dr. (only when you're up to it of course Thanks.... |

Trebleclef,
You are the first person I've heard of besides my daughter, that explained the dizziness as "The world isn't spinning, I am." That's exactly how my daughter explains it. She has also had every ENT test known to man and also passed all of them. She doesn't however, get quick dizzy spells but is dizzy every time she gets up and attempts to walk. Is there therapy for something like this? All we've been trying so far is meds and they don't seem to be helping very much. Brenda |

I wish I knew of a therapy that would help. I do have a theory though that all the salt loading I do aggravates this dizziness. I posted on this a while back. It makes sense to me because the retained fluid from salt settles in our tissues and the first tissues it settles in is in our inner ears (according to the neurologist). This is why people who suffer from vertigo or menier's disease are advised to avoid all salt.
I don't know what the answer is though because the salt is what keeps my bp up. So, I just deal with it. How awful that your young daughter has to deal with it to such an extent. My heart really goes out to her (and to you having to watch it). My daughter is turning 12 in a few weeks and I can't imagine her having this - it's bad enough for her to have a mom with it. Now, she's starting to worry that she's getting POTS. If her heart races at all (too much caffeine) or if she gets the slightest bit dizzy, she makes me check her pulse and bp. It's starting to concern me because I don't want her to worry this way. I guess it's to be expected though - she knows more about the heart and blood pressure than most adults.... Does your daughter also get really dizzy when the barometric pressure changes? |

Oh this is a good subject. I hate being dizzy all the time, it is my BIGGEST complaint about all this. I think, though, I am starting to realize that this IS a blood pressure problem. I just got done wearing a 21 day event monitor, so we shall see what it says. I know it's not Vertigo....I had a doc do a hole bunch of movement tests with me, and said that it was NOT coming from that! I've had my ears and sinuses checked. I have NOT had a tilt table test done~ I'm too scared. So, I can't go by that. But I do know I'm tired of this darn rollercoaster my body straped in to, and I never agreed to it. I gotta ask, what was the last roller coaster/ ride you've been on. For me, It was the Piartes of the Cribean at Disney....I thought, what harm could that be, sit my butt in a boat and float around a moat....hey that rhymes, lol. But for real, I didn't realize that there is a maybe 3 foot drop along the ride, and well........ I know the baby in front of me heard me cussing, she wasn't complaining?!?!. That was the last thing I rode that day. LOL...a few summers ago, I tried the log flume, thought one drop would be ok.....Yeah, I thought wrong. My sister made me sit out for a long time after, until the color came back in my face-she said, lol. I've never actaully been on a roller coaster, I've always feared how they would make me feel. I don't like the adreline rush, and then when I do get one, they last forever! An hour after the ride and I still feel like I'm riding. And plane rides~ OMG, where's the doggie bag?? Don't go for rides on those often either!. LOL.....I wish I could charge people for the ride I'm on, wouldn't that be nice. .......NOW, will someone please let me OFF!
HAHAHA~ OK, you know a good laugh makes it all oK...if even only for a minute! |
