I am listening to some new Holiday music and am feeling some nostalgia.

My favorite winter memory is [i have many but I'll pick one]:

Fresh, fluffy, dumping snow falling from the sky. Everything is quiet the way it gets with snowfall.

Laying under a tall pine tree coated with snow, pulling on the lowest branch and "wham", slammed with an avalanche of cool snow.

Easily pleased child.

So what is a favorite Holiday memory of yours??

Jess.

Jess,
That's a hard one. I will have to think about it for awhile.

I don't know if I have a favorite. But every year I look forward to Christmas Eve at my house. We have a tradition of eating tamales, chili, queso and chips. The we is just my husband, me and 2 children. Then we open our gifts and check our stockings. We enjoy our gifts, talk and just spend the evening together.

In the autumn one year some friends and I went to Kitty Hawk, NC where the Wright brothers flew the first plane. Behind where they did their flight are several shifting sand dunes. These dunes are a couple of stories high. It was in the late afternoon just after a wonderful day of fun and laughter and we were tired but very happy. We all started to just sit down on the top of one of the dunes without a word being spoken. One person started to hum a Hindu prayer very slowly(I think that is what it was), and each of us relaxed into the moment. A sailboat was coming into the harbor below us and the golden light of the failing afternoon was glistening on the boat, the water, us, everything. It was being in a perfect world all by ourselves. I had long waist long hair that was in a tight ponytail, but I let it down and let the wind swirl it and wrap it around me. I don't think I ever felt that peaceful and happy before. Friends, the perfect place, the perfect time.............

EWWWWWW...It is so fabulous hearing a snippet of your 'favorites'!

May life be always filled with 'favorites' and the opportunity to share them.

Thanks for chiming in you guys.

Gnat...I knew you were not from the U.S. when you asked me in another post about Motilium...it is not a standard medication here in the States [it won't even be listed in an American Doc's palm Epocrates].

South Africa...I hear it is be-au-tiful. I had plans to teach tennis for a few weeks in Cape Town [foiled by you can guess what] and was sooooo looking forward to seeing that big plateau, whatever it is called [no disrespect intended for forgetting my geography]. South Africa is on my list of places to go someday. Plus, the South African 'Pinotage' wine...fantastic.

Dragonflower...I bicycled across your state and found it enchanting. Never hung out on the N.C. coast though. Fantastic memory. The coast is on my list now as well.

Xena...definitely would not mind being at your house for Tamales and Holiday cheer. Comfort with family trumps all, really.

About sand dunes: has anyone every seen those massive dunes in Colorado...the 'Great Sand Dunes'? Now that is a spectacular memory. One of the most bizarre things I have ever come accross. Rather unexpected thing really. Mountains and then, WHAM, giant dunes.

Ahhhh. Thanks for the lift y'all. Wouldn't mind a bit hearing more. Smiler

Great memories everyone, thanks for sharing them.

Jess....Really good idea

Gnat....South Africa sounds beautiful, you are lucky to be in such a place. I love wine, just wished I could drink it. Had to stop years ago, taking to many meds.

Hi Gnat,

I cannot drink either. Sets me back. I ave sipped some of that South African Pinotage though and you will hear me saying over and over just how tasty that sip was.

A South America trip sounds fabulous. I really would like to go to Chile, where a woman runs the country [i think] and see the Atacama desert. The Patagonia of Argentina sounds like a good place to be as well.

Ahhhhh. Travel plans. My next destination is Barcelona. Always have wanted to go and walk the streets.

Take care Gnat. Love your posts,

Jess

Guys, New Years Day is coming up and from what I understand the "real" alcoholics stay off the roads because it is officially amateur night!

When someone asks me why I don't drink, I tell them I can't because it is bad for my knees. After a couple of moments of serious contemplation, they will usually look at me with a question in their eyes, to which I reply--"I don't drink because it hurts my knees so bad when I fall down." I know, I know, I hear the groans from here

Dragonflower...this is good. You have just prepared me for my second no-alcohol New Years!

When someone asks me why I don't drink, I could say many things. But I think I will say that it is bad for my fingernails and eyelashes. That will either turn people off automatically OR keep them occupied in thought.

Totally. arbitrary.

Jess.

Dragonflower and Jess,

You are both so funny.......just keep em guessing.
What a mess we would be in if we drank with all the medications we take. LOL........
I think we are messed up enough!!!
