Hi my names Tara and im 20.

I was rushed to hospital sep 06 ago with fast heart rate, nausea, chest pain, dizziness, breathlessness and an excessive feeling of heat in my face. I was unable to move for weeks as my heart rate would rise dramatically every time I moved. I was put on antenalol and sent home but still suffered from all symptoms and was in and out of hospital for months.

I've had CT scans, x-rays, lung function tests, echocardiogram, hundreds of blood tests and finally after a tilt test was diagnosed with POTS.

I was put on a new heart drug called ivabradine as beta blockers lowered my blood pressure. Since then I have continued to suffer from all the same symptoms and I find it difficult to walk or stand for more than a few mins. My heart rate is till high despite medication, i have such excessive heat in my face that I cannot cope without ice packs even in winter!

I had to give up work and since then have had numerous hospital appts for stress tests, bone scans. etc

This week I saw a new specialist who thinks I may also have Joint hypermobility and Im going to go and have some tests on my nerves and aweat test, exercise tests.

Since I became ill I have not managed to find anyone else with POTS and docs have relatively little help or advice for me.

If anyone in a similar position could let me know I would be really grateful!

Thanks

Hi Tara... and welcome Smiler

You will find there is probably someone here that has been through much the same as you. I am going to leave a link to a thread and suggest that you do some reading there. It can take a bit of time to get the right meds , but knowing what kind of POTS you have can help. I will check back with you later.

Welcome. You have come to the right place. I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time, but hopefully will find the right combination of meds soon. You'll find a lot of helpful information here.

Good luck.

Tara...if you have the hyperadrenergic POTS, there are only a few meds that will really help.

My face burns/flushes most of the time!It sounds silly but my face feels like its on fire almost all the time!even in mid winter I have the windows open a fan on and ice packs on my face!its impossible to try to go anywhere because its so bad!If I dont cool my face down with ice when it starts to get bad then it tends to bring on my other symptoms or worsen them!
