I am still trying to figure out what is going on with me.
My question today is "is it possible to have Dys with rising blood pressure"? When I sit or lay down I feel fine. Blood pressure today at doctor when sitting was 116/68. I waited about 4 mins and stood up and asked her to check again. It was 136/88. That was just standing and her putting cuff on and checking. At home with my electric machine I am getting 164/108 during standing. I am on Norvasc 5 MG. At home sitting I get 138/85 range. I still get tired (sleepy tired) after walking or standing up for like 10 mins. My head gets foggy. If I overdue it my whole body just kinda does not work right. It takes me extra time to process and do things. Some times a lot of time. I am on Doctor #11 now. Just wanted to know about the BP and Dys cause from what I read ppl have low BP, but I though I saw it could also be the other way (high). thanks |

Hi,
well my blood pressure is high at the moment (and has been for a while and doc says if it continues this way I will need medication for it) and I still have POTS. It used to be low. Last time I saw my pots doc (2 weeks ago) he reviewed everything and said it all still fits with having POTS. |

Tho what makes me feel awful is the low BP for the most part--at times--for no reason I can think of--my BP goes from very low to very high--in minutes. I think if your body has autonomic balance troubles it can go either way.

My blood pressure is similar to yours. When I am sitting or lying down it drops low, along with my pulse (usually around 92/50 something or lower with my pulse between the 48 - 55 range. Then, when I stand up, my pulse jumps to at least 90 something (and this is on the medication) and if I'm active it goes into the hundreds and my bp usually goes to at least 120/70s or 80s.
Now, if I'm out shopping or on my feet for a long time I will get really wacky feeling. My head will get tight and foggy, I'll get lightheaded and dizzy, etc. and sometimes start to faint. If I'm out I never know if I've had a bp drop because of the blood pooling or if I just feel bad because it's so high. But, I also have the same symptoms if I sit too long or lie down too long (like watching TV in bed) so it's all messed up. I think since my bp does run low, when I go high my body has a really hard time adjusting (even though the high might not seem that unusual, it's high for me). So, yes my bp is everywhere and like blue, I still have POTS. |

mine jumps around too. especially my diastolic pressure, which i can't figure out. but yes, my doctor agrees this fits with dysautonomia. considering our autonomic nervous systems regulate blood pressure, it would make sense that it could go either way, whenever it feels like it, really.

Mine began low, with pre-fainting symptoms daily, and now 5 years into this illness it is way too high. I'm still officially a POTS person though due these changes my dr has questioned possible PAF.

Mine is never low. I think the lowest I have ever seen it at the doctor is like 116/68. But that was just once.
I would say mine stays average when sitting or laying down and is you know in the 150-160/95-108 range when standing. There is very little info out there for orthostatic hypertension. |

Smellfunny,
My bp is usually high too. My cardiologist put me on Bystolic which helps in the sitting position, but it is still high when I stand, especially my diastolic. I am leaving to go to MD Anderson in Houston, TX on Monday. Day full of tests on Tuesday. Maybe, they will give me a diagnoses and help to treat me. What kind of symptoms do you have? Mine seem to be similar to yours. Nicole |

i used to have normal/low bp then once i got pots, my bp is consistenly 13x/80x or higher when the docs test it. but htey test it after you have just walked into their office so the physical activity increases it (or so i think). If i'm relaxed and laying down, then it is normal again.

I have been wondering about this myself.
The dr diagnosed me with orthostatic hypotension with tach., but now that I have bought a blood pressure monitor, I see that very often my bp is high when standing or even sitting. I went back and looked at my TTT numbers, and see that I was never really low bp until I was given medication and then my bp went low, my HR went to about 175 and I fainted. |
