I have had anxiety for about 10 years, 5 years ago I was diagnosed with POTS, Does ANYONE hear have both, and if so how to we know we are having a POTS episode or an ANXIETY attack. I know I have both, and I could not tell you when I am having one or the other. I also had ablation 7 years ago for Supraventricular Tachycardia. So that should be gone but now how do you differinciate between tach, and anxiety.

Well anxiety makes you tachy, and tacy gives you anxiety, so you really can't separate the two. It's really a vicious circle. The POTS attack may trigger an anxiety attack and an anxiety attack may trigger a POTS attack.

Are you on beta blockers? Beta blockers help with both conditions.

I can't take beta blockers because I had ablation for arythmias. I am now just on a low dose of celexa, and low dose of xanax. I am very drug sensitive.

Rosie,
I have been checked for MVP years ago it was neg. From what I gather from Dr. Grub He gave me a definate 2-5 year recovery period, so I am lead to believe it it post-viral or primary, however; I do not know this doctor well enough to know his batting average on giving a speified recovery time and percentage rate he gave me a 70% chance of recovery in the 2-5 year period, said if recovery didn't happen within that time it did NOT mean it wouldn't. I believe it is quickly approaching the five year mark, and I do want to say If a recover does come it would surprise me, as nothing has happened yet and if it does everyone in this forum will know every detail and aspect of it. I do not feel this will happen though, I think it would help me to know exactly what a gradual on set is. abrupt is explanatory, I should have asked Mr. Grub to elaborate on this "Gradual" onset is that 10yrs. coming or 1 year or months. hope you get something out of this rosie.

Also rosie Dr. Grub when I asked him how they base the recovery percentage, and time frame he said it is based on what is being affected by the Pots syndome, which I didn't know it could affect other thing other than the B/P and H/R.? do you know of other things it affects?

I have both POTS and anxiety along with it. I can tell when it is my anxiety causing symptoms or if my POTS causes me to be anxious. I had it under control for quite a while but it came back this winter with new and worsening symptoms but I think it is getting back under control.....I hope!

Mind you all the anxiety whether it is b/f or after POTS symptoms is originally caused by POTS - never had anxiety b/f I fell ill with POTS.

I've never heard of a doctor giving a time frame for recovery from POTS......I was told mine is chronic and I will have ups and downs....I fell ill after an entrovirus. It has been ove 14 years. I hope Dr. Grubb is right in your case.

Donna

I do not hear this often either but I was truly given a time frame. I don't know why.

For me, trying to figure out if it's anxiety or POTS is like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg.

Since I was never an anxious person until I was diagnosed with POTS and other arrythmias, I guess the answer for me is that the POTS leads to the anxiety. Anytime my heart is bonkers, I am bonkers Roll Eyes
