Ok so I have severe osteoporosis--to the point of getting micro fractures in my neck/spine--which is--as you'd expect with MVPS--crooked. Roll Eyes

Has anyone tried Fosemax or other bone building drugs? Results? Side effects? I seem to have SOOO much trouble with ANYTHING new I try lately I'm hoping someone else has tried it.

thanks in advance for responses! Big Grin

Hi Sandy,
I am taking Forteo which is an injection. Due to my digestive issues I am unable to take anything by mouth.

The Forteo is an injection every day for 2 years and the medication acts sort of like the parathyroid hormone in that it helps rebuild bone...

The other meds actually prevent further loss.

After I have been on this for 2 years I will be put on one of the other meds but by an infusion over a few hours once/year...

They mentioned one (I forget right now the name) - but said in 2 years the science could have moved in a different direction - but for now that is the plan.

HI Sandy,

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 12 years ago and immediately put on fosomax. After numerous tests, Drs still could not figure out why I have it, especially being male, and only in my mid 30's when diagnosed. They seem to think I did not absorb calcium as a child, or could have something to do with my MVPS, they still do not know.

Anyway, I have had no problems or side effects whatsoever with fosomax, (I now take something very similar called Fosavance, once weekly), as long as it is taken according to directions. My Dr did recently tell me a new study indicates not to eat dairy within 2 hours of taking the pill to increase it's effectiveness. I was also taking a nasal spray for a few years called miacalcian, however I was taken off that a couple of years ago and put on 1000 units daily vitamin D. Apparently, a new study indicated this is very important with patients with osteo.

I have shown improvement over the years, and have not had any more bone loss, but the process is slow.

Best of luck,
Greg
