Hi all,

Two nights ago one of my teeth broke off at the gumline. It was in a bad way already and the dentist was due to start work on it soon.

Anyway, he saw me the next morning and I told him I wanted what was let of it out. He asked me did I want sedation (I don't do well at all with sedation and it would have meant having that rotten half tooth in my gums till I saw a specialist to take it out) and asked him could he do it then and there.

He e-xrayed it and said that the roots looked straight and he'd be able to do it. So we went ahead. I had numerous injections - no problem- and after 5 minutes I heard the tooth almost pop out. Except the damn thing had broken. An hour and a half later he finally got the rest of it out.

He was so kind. He made me rest in the chair for a good 15 minutes before helping me out to the waiting room where he asked me to sit up for a while (to help the clotting process I think) and so he could keep an eye on me.

When I got home -- about 3 hours later, I got a call from him checking to see if I was okay.

I wake this morning and I get a call from his wife ringing for him to check in to see if I was still okay.

I look and feel like I've been punched in the right side of my face (some swelling and soreness but no bruising -- yet) but this dentist is worth his weight in gold. He's the most caring man.

The reason it took so long to get the rest of the tooth out was that the x-ray 'lied' and one of the roots was twisted and jammed in amongst the tooth next to it.

Anyway, I'm sore and taking it easy to day but knock on wood there should be no bad side effects. I had to decline anti-biotics because they just don't agree with me.

But how's that for service (more like caring). All for the price of $250. 80 bucks less than a consultation with my neurologist and that guy never rang to see if I was doing okay with any of the various train of meds he tried me on over a year. If a med affected me badly I'd have to ring him, leave a message and wait for him to get back to me.

I go back to see my dentist next Wednesday. I'm going to have a temporary denture placed there until we work out what to do about the gaping hole in my smile. LOL.

what a sweet and caring dentist (and wife). i think that is indicative of who he is as a person. i wish more people in general were this way then regardless of their profession, they would be compassionate toward others.

Very kind man - too bad our specialists weren't as caring ... it would be nice if they took the time to find out how we are doing without us having to make an app't!

I truly have to second this. If I could only find a doctor as good and as caring as my dentist. What a blessing he is!
