I'm on my second week of midodrine and atenolol. Right now I am experiencing my first cold since being diag w/POTS 6/08. It is horrible! I have a bit of a fever, chills and a sore throat.
My doc said I can have the flu shot. My local clinic will not have them for another week or so. I have always gotten one. My children were just vaccinated a week ago. Just wondering if anyone has had bad reactions to the flu shot since being on meds or since diag w/pots? I know some people never get them. Michele |

I got my very first one ever last year, and had no adverse reactions regarding either my Dysautonomia or my Celiac Disease.

I've been getting one for the last few years, and have not noticed anything bad. My kids and husband get them, too, especially since it was the flu that caused my symptoms to become this bad in the first place. I wouldn't be without one.

I got one last year and was totally fine!
This year I didnt get it done early enough and came down with flu and its been horrific. I couldn't physically move for at least 4 days and couldnt eat or even talk much. Sore throat, aching, migraines, nausea, cold ...all of it. Im going to get my flu shot next weekand I seriously regret not getting done early enough! |

I'm going to get one. My husband's a teacher and brings home all kinds of bugs. Last year, I seemed to catch everything he brought home 4 times worse than anyone else. I've gotten flu shots for over 7 years since I've been a nurse. I'll still get one this year, though.

i can't get one, nor anyone in my family. I have other autoimmune issues and a simple cold can turn into something very ugly for me. I'm a real big fan of purell and the little lysol spray that you can keep in your purse--i never drink from a glass in a rest. and i clean the utensils w/purell b/f i use them I know this sounds crazy, but it keeps me from getting sick. I just got over pneumonia in Feb. My dr had me come to her office everyday for shots of rocefin and my solu-cortef...she was afraid if i went to hospital i would get MRSA. She is real good she has even gone to the expense to set up a room w/IV's for me, just in case.

I got mine two weeks ago. However when I worked in a general practice or internal med, we recommended that the pt not get the shot while they were sick or running a fever.

Don't get the flu shot while your sick! But please get one. I got POTS from an upper respiratory flu. I have gotten a flu shot since and have had no reaction. I also make sure my kids get one every year. Getting the flu can really mess you up!! Please get one!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm afraid to get one. i figure its better odds to wait and see if i get flu because the flu shot doesn't always get the right strain AND the flu shot really gives you a bit of flu...and whenever i've been sick since POTS, its been worse and awful.
so i think i'll take my chances. i work from home so have limited contact with others... |

Dear Michele - I had my flu shot yesterday. When I worked in health care, we had to get them unless we were allergic to eggs. It is a killed virus so it won't give you the flu but it did make my arm sore yesterday. Since I was just diagnosed this year with Fibro, I did wonder if it would set off a flare. Thankfully I just had a "normal" immune reaction.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I am starting radiation treatment next week. Although it is not as bad as chemotherapy, it can still lower your WBC counts. I didn't want to take the chance of getting the flu and missing one of my 30 treatments. I want to complete this before Christmas! - Kay |

I got my flu shot last week and haven't had any problems

I checked with my doctor before getting the flu shot, and he strongly recommended it. I have post-viral dys, having missed my flu shot last year. I had my flu shot yesterday and have had no problems.

Well I am free from infection so I will get a flu shot when the clinic gets them in. My children have had theirs and hubby gets one today.
I hope I don't get another cold after the shot. I know if you get one within two weeks of the shot, your body might not be able to build good enough immunity. Hope everyone will be fine this winter and not get any viruses. I appreciate your input. Have a good weekend! |

I got mine 2 days ago. No problems but a sore arm for a bit--which they tell you will happen. I got one 2 years ago and had no problem either.
