I hear that they offer health insurance. Do they offer it for part-time employees?

If so, that would be disastrous for me. I substitute teach when I am up to it. The school system just this summer turned offer the substitute teaching to Kelly Services.

I recently was able to quality for health insurance through a new state program. One on the stimpulations was that my employer not offer health insurance.

I have read on the internet that health insurance through Kelly Services is very expensive. The state program does not care how expensive an employers health insurance may be. If the employer offers it, the state will turn you down for their program.

This is disasterous. I can't just work anywhere. This is the only job I can do because I can work when I am up to it.

I desperately need "midodrine". I've just started taking it, and it makes such a difference.

I'm in Panic Mode. Help!

Call up Kellys and ask. I used to work for Kellys, and they were always friendly about answering questions.

When I worked there the insurance was a PPO, and PPOs usually provide you a lot of care options and but they are also more expensive. They may have changed insurance providers since I worked there but here is the website for the people who they used to use.

Yes check with Kelly about their plan--but you might also check the plan adm for the plan with the state you currently have to see if you can keep it--and at what price. Typically that school group plan will run cheaper than a plan written ONLY for part time employees. You should be able to keep your teachers plan under COBRA--the problem will be at what price if they no longer consider you an employee--or if you can stay as a regular employee.

Also check into any group life or disability they may have in either place (my guess is Kelly won't have this). If they offer ANY DI insurance that is not health underwritten TAKE IT OUT NOW. Or ask about what is called a "wavier of premium benefit" (is for paying the premiums for you if you have disability) availability on the group health life or DI products.

Also check for waiver of payment benefit riders on loans you may take out.

Then, push comes to shove, check into getting onto Social Security disability to get medicare. But expect they will automatically turn you down the first time--so it will take no less than a year to get it going. To qualify you have to show that you have been disabled for 6 months already and that your disability will continue for at least a total of a year. You will need a doctor to back you up--and maybe an atty to help you as well.

I've rattled on. Feel free to write me at cbeachinn@aol.com about any of this if I can help you! I sold group medical and disability, life ins for 12 years to state teachers in La.--and am now on social security disability (for another problem--not my dys) so I've been through this.

Hope this helps!

Try to stay calm--and start calling them first thing tomorrow!

I really hope one of these things comes through for you!

HugsXOXOXOXOX
Sandy

Sorry, but I just thought of something else. Contact the drug company that makes your meds--most of them offer plans to allow people without insurance to purchase meds at reduced priced. You should be able to find contact info online--just look up the med at drugs.com to get the manufacturer then google for their company website.

Again, hope this helps!

Thanks so much everyone. I should have explained myself more clearly. I was in a panic.

As a substitute teacher employed with the school system for the past 6 years, I have not had health insurance. It was not available for substitute teachers.

Now the school system is turning over substitute teachers to Kelly Services who claims to offer health insurance. When I called to ask them if you have to be full time to qualify for the health insurance, the person I talked to really didn't know, but she thought it was available for everyone.

My state just got around to offering health insurance to people who don't have any, but your employer must not offer health insurance and you must have a certain income level. I was able to qualify for this insurance, and for the first time, to be able to take Midodrine, which was too expensive for me to afford.

The company that makes Proamatine used to offer a "patient assistance program" but canceled the program when the generic (Midodrine)came out. For 10 mg. three times per day, the generic would be about $250.00 per month which I can't afford. I have a pharmacy card that would knock maybe 20 or 30 dollars off, but that would be it. Still way more than I can afford. So the health insurance was a GodSend. And I am noticing an improvement with the Midodrine.

Substitute Teaching has worked well for me because if I was feeling bad in the morning, I would simply not call in to see if they needed me. (Also, many nights I don't sleep a wink, so this is about the only job I can think of to do.)

So, since Kelly didn't seem to know what they offered, I thought that maybe someone on this forum worked for them and would know if you had to work so many hours per week before you could qualify for their insurance. (Obviously I wouldn't be working too many hours.)

I have to go to an orientation with them, and I would get the info then, but I hate to have already applied and then have to turn down working for them because they offer health insuance, which would disqualify me from getting my health insurance through the new state program. (It doesn't cost me an arm and a leg and I desperately need it.)

Hope this makes more sense. Yes, I may end up applying for disability, but I have to prove that I have taken my medications, etc., and that I am still disabled. I hadn't been able to prove that, because I had no insurance to cover the cost of my meds. The disability office just would have said that "I was refusing to take my meds. Case denied." (I have heard these horror stories before.)

So thanks so much for all of your responses. Hope that I have made more sense now.

And Sandy Sims I may try to email you later. Thanks so much for offering to help.

PEACE AND LOVE

Thanks everyone.

I tend to have a panic disorder, also happens when I drive.

Anyway, found out that the insurance offered through Kelly Services requires that you work at least 32 hours per week. (All I can handle as a substitute teacher is about 14 hours per week with this disability.)

My state sponsored health insurance states that you must NOT BE ELIGIBLE for health insurance through your employer. So I guess that I am okay, since I stated when I applied for the insurance, and was accepted, that I had a disability and couldn't work many hours per week.

I go into panic mode so easily, and then I can't think clearly. (Another health issue to work on. I have symptoms of PTSD.)

Thanks everyone for all of your help.

Glad it all worked out morninglory. It would send me into a panic too if something was finally working and I thought I'd have to live without it. I remember once I forgot to take my meds in the am and had gone out and was such a basket case for fear of having an episode, my husband left work and drove home (I can't drive and had been dropped off) and got it and brought it to me (yes, the man should be sainted)......we feel bad so much that when we feel good we don't want to mess with what's working!
