hi all-
as many of you know, i have been complaining about intense pressure in my head, like all the blood is collected in it, along with rushing of blood in my ears and headaches. my doctor and i assumed that this surely must mean surges of high blood pressure. i bought a blood pressure monitor (finally, i know!), and have discovered a few trends.
as of recently, my blood pressure has mainly been around 100 - 105/50. i have read that normal pulse pressure, the difference between the diastolic and systolic, should be less than 40. mine is a bit high. however, i have also noticed that when i become symptomatic with the head pressure, blood rushing in ears, etc., my diastolic pressure drops into the 40s, while my systolic stays about the same, if not even increasing a little.
can someone with more knowledge than myself explain what low diastolic blood pressure means, what causes it, and if high pulse pressure can cause these symptoms. i read on the internet that high pulse pressure is considered to be very, very bad. should i be concerned about this? is my pulse pressure enough of a deviation from "normal" that i would have problems?
does anyone else experience this? for those who do, do you have similar symptoms?

thanks, everyone

I have no clue why this is--but also have a big "split" in my BP that is larger the worse I feel.

So I'd really like an answer to this one too!

BTW--way to go on the BP cuff! I live with my wrist BP monitor around most of the time--tells me when I need to drink salty water--or maybe just go lay down, prop my feet up and rest a minute and relax. Has really helped me to figure out what I need and when based on what my symptoms mean in terms of my BP.

Good post--hope someone has a clue.

Thanks!

Sandy

I get big splits in my pressure all the time. For instance, I just took mine and it was 113/54.I think mine is always at least a 40 point difference. My pressure is all over the place though lately. When I'm up, it's up pretty high for me and when I sit or lie down it plummets along with my heartrate. It has a mind of its own, that's for sure.......

I too have problems with pulse pressure. Usually mine is too close, like 15 points apart. Although I do get big spreads as well, like 50 points. I don't feel well when either happens. I get more of the head pressure you are talking about with the big spreads and I get more of the internal cold and shaking sensations, graying out, weakness, etc. with a narrow pulse pressure. I called the doctors office and I was told that my BP readings were impossible....ha! So I guess your BP monitor must be broken too...teehee!

Just so you'll know I too get this"big splits" thing. Also get told it means nothing--or asked what device I used to get such a reading--or--my personal favorite--This is normal for people who are bad at handling stress--are you having nightmares and feeling stressed and depressed lately?(this happens worst at night for me).

FYI you're NOT crazy--this IS happening--and you need to keep looking til you find a doc who can hear you.

Welcome to the club no one to join--but that has the nicest folks around! <smiles>

Hope you feel better soon!
XOXOXOXO
Sandy

So welcome to the club! <grins>
