I started Toprol XL a few weeks ago and noticed that this week my blood pressure has been running in the 120s/80s (which is normal by medical standards). But usually, my blood pressure is in the low 100s/60-70s. Is it possible that the beta blocker is increasing the BP? Perhaps because the heart is now beating more efficiently? I also have my period this week which I guess could also account for the increase in BP.

Any ideas?

My bp went up initially, too, and I was told it was because my heart was beating more efficiently (w/o the tachycardia).

hugs

I had a very weird response to Toprol. My BP did go up. Actually I ended up in ER.
