i will be moving to the washington, dc area, which means i need a whole new team of doctors. which i was very stressed about before, but now am thinking it's not such a bad thing! my current doctors are all starting to dump me due to their lack of knowledge on dysautonomias.
i am wondering if all those in the area can suggest knowledgeable doctors? my parents live in maryland, between baltimore and DC, so i am willing to travel a bit.
thank you!!!!

I live/work in DC and go to Dr. Callsen of Physician Associates in Chevy Chase, Maryland - she is VERY good and came recommended to me by many drs (even my ER doc told I was in good hands with her)...she is an internist though...she is military trained and very serious. I see her once a month and have spoken to her on the phone when needed. My cardiologist is GREAT and she works with him - they speak about me when issues arise...his name is Dr. Yamamoto (He is in the same building as Dr. Callsen). He was in the military too - he was great in explaining POTS to me...he said I have a heart like a sports car but my central nervous system is hitting the gas pedal too much and that I needed the beta blocker to slow it down with the brake pedal...for some reason that explanation comforted me. I have also seen his partner Dr. Bodurian who gave me every heart test known to man when they first saw me in February. He also sent me for an ultrasound (also in the same building) of my gall bladder and upper GI area since I was complaining so much of a tight chest and shortness of breath.

Dr Bodurian has been named one of the top cardiologists in DC.

There is a dys specialist at GW Hospital - Dr. Pocinki - I have not gone to him since I am satisfied with my current team and can make no recommendations about him.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions.

I saw Dr. James Duc at INOVA and like him pretty well although my symptoms have gotten a lot worse since then so I don't know how he would do with changing issues etc. Good luck.

The national naval medical center is where I was seen in Bethesdea/D.C. It is a teaching hospital and my roomie was not a veteran or current military member. If you don't have access to the facility, there are many other research/teaching hospitals in that area to my recollection as well as the other physicians already mentioned here. Good luck in the search after your relocation. It is hard enough to find a doc to trust in my current location. God bless.

Gracie,

I hear Sam Shor is good. He is in Reston, VA. He apparently has an interest in dysautonomia and treats lots of patients with it. My cardiologist and internist have both recommended him. Good luck!
